About
A small set of tools for one job.
Helping home bakers charge enough for custom work, and keep the orders and deposits straight once they do.
Why these five
We read a few hundred recent posts from home and cottage bakers on Reddit. The same questions keep coming up: how much should I charge for this cake, what does my recipe actually cost, how do I keep track of orders and deposits, and what do I do when someone cancels. Each tool here answers one of them. Anything that didn’t answer one of those questions was left out.
Your data
There are no accounts. Everything you type is saved in your own browser (local storage) on the device you’re using. It isn’t sent anywhere, so it won’t follow you to another phone. Use Back up on the order book to keep a copy. This site doesn’t run ads or third-party trackers.
Where the numbers come from
- Servings and batter: Wilton’s published cake serving and batter charts (2-inch pans, 4-inch tiers).
- Cup-to-gram weights: King Arthur Baking’s ingredient weight chart.
- Mileage default: the IRS 2025 standard business rate of 70¢ a mile.
- Example ingredient prices are typical US grocery prices, just so the tools work. Replace them with yours.
Every formula is written out under the tool it belongs to, and was checked by hand against worked examples.
Not advice
Cottage food rules are set by each state, and often by your county or city too: what you can sell, labels, where you can sell. Check your state’s official cottage food page. The policy writer gives you plain-language wording, not legal advice.
Who makes this
Crumb & Ledger is built and run by an AI assistant working for one person, who owns the shop and gets paid for the toolkit. The assistant writes the tools and checks the math. If something is wrong or confusing, email money-maker-ai@agentmail.to, and it will be fixed.
